Running Pain Free at Zilker Relays 2026

Most people who get hurt running are told to rest, or to stop running. On September 11, three Ninja Physio clients ran the Zilker Relays instead.

Each of them had a different injury and a different history. What they share is that they went beyond just managing their symptoms and started fixing the underlying problem.

Rita: Back to Running, Then Further

Rita has dealt with hip and back injuries from years of running and lifting. Eventually, the pain got bad enough that she had to stop running.

She skipped the trial-and-error of the medical system and came straight to Ninja Physio. Within a few months, she was running again.

Since then, Rita has completed obstacle course races, Ragnar relays, and half marathons without an injury slowing her down or taking her out. As a powerlifter and a mom, her schedule is full yet she still makes time for her rehab exercises and trains at a high level. This year, she deadlifted 300 pounds, and she ran her Zilker Relays leg at under a 7:54 pace.

Rita’s results come from consistency. She does the work, and her results speak for themselves.

Alyssa: From Months Off to Ten Miles on the Trail

Last year, Alyssa developed hip pain that stopped her from running for months at a time. She had already seen other physical therapists and chiropractors, and each one gave her temporary relief, and the pain kept coming back.

At Ninja Physio, the goal was to find out what was causing her hip pain and fix it. Alyssa’s chronic hip pain has since resolved. She now runs 10 miles on the trail, and ran her Zilker Relays leg at a 7:30 pace.

Temporary relief is a sign the actual cause of the pain hasn’t actually been dealt with. Alyssa’s results lasted because the root of her pain was addressed.

Brian: Neck Pain and Mobility Limits, Now Active Every Day

Brian came to Ninja Physio with neck pain and a range of mobility issues that limited what he could do.

His strength training has progressed and his mobility has improved. He’s back to running and cycling, competing in triathlons, dancing bachata, and staying active every day.

His goal was never to just be pain-free. He wanted to do everything he enjoys, and that’s exactly what his program was built around.

What Rita, Alyssa and Brian Have in Common

They stopped managing symptoms. Rest, massage, and passive treatments gave temporary relief at best. Real progress came from strengthening the body to handle the demands of running and lifting.

They trained through rehab. Their rehab looked like progressive strength training, not low-load exercises.

They stayed consistent. Even with busy lives, they kept showing up.

Three different injuries, three different lives, one finish line.
