In January, we completed the Urban Iron Race with two of our clients Alyssa and Brian. The race was about 8 miles long and consisted of 3 WOD’s that took place at 3 different gyms in Austin.
This is how they got there.
Alyssa’s Road to the Starting Line
Months before race day, Alyssa wasn’t running at all.
She had been dealing with IT band pain and SI joint/piriformis pain for months, had already been through another physical therapist and a chiropractor, and had seen minimal improvement from either. The pain hadn’t fully resolved, and more than that, she didn’t know how to come back safely. Alyssa had stopped running and going to her regular run clubs because she didn’t know how to properly rehab her injuries and return to running safely.
When Alyssa started working with Ninja Physio, we addressed the source of her pain, built her strength from the ground up, and gave her a progressive path back to running. By January, she was on the start line with us at Urban Iron, and she finished it.
Today Alyssa runs 10 miles on the Lady Bird Lake trail without fear or pain.
Brian’s Road to the Starting Line
Brian came to Ninja Physio dealing with recurring neck pain and no consistent strength training routine in place.
Over the months leading up to January, Brian made real progress. His neck pain improved significantly. His body composition shifted, 5% body fat down in just a few months. And his training became something he actually built his life around: gym sessions, social bike rides, trail running groups, bachata class.
When Urban Iron came around, Brian was ready. He ran the race with the team, and a few months later completed the CapTexTri in May.
What Race Day Meant
Urban Iron wasn’t just a race. For Alyssa and Brian, it was proof, that the work they put in translated to something real, something hard, something they could be proud of.
For us, getting to cross that finish line with our clients is exactly why we do this. Not just getting people out of pain, but getting them back to the things they love to do.
